Ole Miss Loses Football Assistant Coach
Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron announced Wednesday that wide receivers
coach Matt Lubick has resigned in order to accept an assistant coaching position at Arizona State.
“This is an opportunity for Matt to get closer to home and to also reestablish his
relationship with Coach Dennis Erickson,” Orgeron said, noting that Lubick was on Erickson’s staff at Oregon State. “We are thankful for the job
Matt did at Ole Miss and we wish him well.”
Lubick, 35, recently completed his second season as wide receivers coach of the
Rebels, having joined Orgeron’s staff at Ole Miss in January of 2005.
Lubick arrived at Ole Miss after spending the previous four seasons in the same
position at his alma mater, Colorado State.
Lubick came to Colorado State after having served as secondary coach at Oregon State where he worked under Erickson and helped lead the Beavers to the finest season in school history in 2000.
While at OSU, Lubick helped coordinate the team's recruiting efforts during the Beavers' emergence into the upper echelon of the college football scene. Oregon State, the 2000 Pac-10 Conference champions, defeated Notre Dame in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl and finished the season ranked fifth nationally.
He began his coaching career in 1995 as a student assistant coach and academic
supervisor at Colorado State under his father, Sonny Lubick.
